#Mobile #Networks #Evolved #From 2G to 5G
In 2G, everything was basic. The antenna was connected directly to the BTS. Simple setup, but limited capabilities.
With 3G, things started improving. The RRU (Remote Radio Unit) was introduced, moving some processing closer to the antenna. This helped with better signal and performance.
Then came 4G, where the architecture became more efficient. The RRU moved even closer to the antenna, and the BBU (Baseband Unit) handled more centralized processing. This is where speed and data really took off.
Now in 5G, the system is much smarter
and more flexible. It’s split into:
• #RU (Radio Unit) near the antenna
• #DU (Distributed Unit)
• #CU (Central Unit) in the cloud
